sherry week with el lopo
nov 4-10 2024
November 4th-10th is International Sherry Week this year, and true to form, El Lopo is way overdoing it.
We'll be bringing in some rare one-off bottles that aren't exactly sustainable for our regular menu, but they'll be open and available in tasting pours starting from Monday the 4th until they're gone.
As in previous years, our regular Tuesday night ritual of Sherry-Oke is being extended to all other evenings of Sherry Week. (For the uninitiated: anyone brave enough to get up and sing unlocks $5 glasses of sherry for the rest of the night.)
But as Tuesday the 5th happens to be a rather important news day, we'll be foregoing our regularly scheduled entertainment in order to keep the sound on while we watch election coverage. Come in with your "I voted" sticker and you'll get the Sherry-Oke prices all night.
New for this year, you can now reserve a tasting experience with the owner Daniel on any night of Sherry Week. He'll check in with you to learn a bit about your palate and gauge what you already know about sherry, and pick out all your food and beverages based on your guidelines. We're only offering this to three groups per night to make sure they all get Daniel's full attention.
On Thursday the 7th, we'll be joined by our friend Sean Norton of ¿Por qué no? Selections, who sources a lot of our favorite wines and just happens to be the Bay Area's only certified sherry educator. For the fifth year running, he'll be leading us through an interactive (read: sippable) sherry appreciation class from 7-9pm. Click below to find more info and to register.
Perhaps most exciting, we'll also be hosting our third annual San Francisco Sherry Week Bingo - a collaborative game that challenges players to seek out our favorite fortified experiences at different bars and restaurants all across town. As if the chase itself weren’t rewarding enough, the participating bars and restaurants have put up a variety of food and drink prizes to give you some extra motivation.
